For years, I felt that the marketing advice I was given just didn’t feel right – but it wasn’t until I watched the Susan Cain TED talk “The Power Of Introverts” that I realised it’s because I’m an introvert!
Since then, I’ve been observing introverts and extroverts, and I’ve been surprised at how differently introverts behave – not only in social situations, but crucially in sales situations.
So in December 2013 I asked about 100 introverts in business: What is your biggest challenge when it comes to promoting your business as an introvert?
And I found that there were 5 main challenges:
- believing that you “should” behave more like an extrovert
- feeling pushy or arrogant, or like a show-off or a know-all
- managing your energy
- having sales conversations – or anything to do with money!
- making yourself heard in group situations
So I took those 5 challenges and I put together some recommendations on how to overcome those challenges – based on my own experience – and I turned it into a webinar.
